A Pattaya taxi driver has been arrested for allegedly stealing the wallet of a Chinese tourist.
Pattaya and Tourist police, along with Land Transport Department officials, announced the capture of Tob Porit, 56, on Jan. 21. They said he was caught red-handed with a name-brand wallet containing about 2,500 baht in foreign currency belonging to visitor Zeyu Shandong.
Police said Tob confessed he took the wallet because it was lying on a table with nobody around. He intended to use the cash to pay of his debts on his cab.
Police said Tob’s behavior was unacceptable as they’ve just recently urged locals to be perfect hosts. He failed and damaged Pattaya’s reputation once again.
He was charged with theft and his taxi license will be suspended.
