PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya authorities have swiftly taken action to address the issue of illegal fireworks displays on the beach following an incident where fireworks exploded and injured a 7-year-old child during the New Year’s countdown. The child, who was sitting and watching fireworks at Jomtien Beach, suffered burns and injuries to her body when a firework misfired and exploded in her vicinity.
The incident, captured on video by the child’s father, shows the family visiting from Bangkok to celebrate the New Year. While waiting for the countdown, many tourists were lighting fireworks in the area. Unfortunately, one firework exploded near the child, causing serious injuries. The child was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment before the family returned to Bangkok.
Following the incident, the father, Chakrawut, 35, posted on social media seeking help from anyone who might have footage of the incident or information about the individuals involved in setting off the firework. He urged authorities to hold those responsible accountable and called for safer designated areas for fireworks displays.
On January 2, Pattaya Deputy Mayor Manot Nongyai responded to the incident, confirming that there had been multiple illegal fireworks displays in public areas. These activities were not only unauthorized but also posed significant safety risks. The city, in cooperation with Banglamung district authorities, is investigating the incident and has promised to take action against those responsible. The goal is to ensure fair compensation for the victim and restore Pattaya’s image as a safe and popular tourist destination.
Manot emphasized that setting off fireworks in public spaces without permission is illegal and poses a serious safety risk to the public. He urged both locals and tourists to follow regulations for safety and report any illegal fireworks displays to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
