Preparations are wrapping up for the area’s biggest party of the year, the annual Pattaya Countdown, which will ring in 2016 with three days of music, fireworks and festival.

City Councilman Rattanachai Sutidechanai presided over a Dec. 15 planning meeting to work out security, utilities and site preparations for the annual party, which this year has been cut from the usual week-long bash to just three nights, beginning Dec. 29.

The opening ceremony heralds the start of the “Year of the Monkey” on the Chinese zodiac with an animal show, plus fireworks and concerts from Zeal, Kala, Paradox and 25 Hours, which combines Brit pop, rock, and folk.

On Dec. 30, Sweet Mullet takes the stage first, followed by Big Ass and Slot Machine, belting out their old hits and their first English song, “Give It All to You”.

On New Year’s Eve, the music starts at 8:30 p.m. with Klear, followed by Instinct, and Bank Cash.

The fun returns to count down the final seconds of 2015 and the party continues into the New Year with Buddha Bless and Labanopon “Suksa Nari”.

Rattanachai said Pattaya will widen the entrance to the Bali Hai concert site from previous years and place emergency lighting to allow safe exits in case of problems. The pier will be closed from Dec. 25.
