Pattaya will cut spending on specialized public-health programs by a third in 2012, putting only 16 million baht into projects for diabetes prevention, the elderly and sports.
At a March 14 National Health Security Fund planning meeting, Deputy Mayor Verawat Khakhay said the city has outlined 22 projects for 2012 with a budget of only 16.3 million baht. And, to date, only 10 of the projects have been approved. Last year, 24 million baht was spent on such programs.

Slated for this year are projects including diabetes and high blood pressure prevention, health promotion through sports and elderly checkups.
The National Health Security Office oversees and allocates funds for programs targeting mothers and children, the elderly, the disabled, the chronically ill and workers in high-risk occupations.
