Mayor Poramet Ngampichet and city engineers inspect the construction site of the new public toilets at the Dusit Curve on Beach Road which began in September.

Pattaya officials are looking at three places along Beach Road to build public restrooms.
Mayor Poramet Ngampichet and city engineers checked out the spots at the Dusit Curve, Central Road and near Walking Street Dec. 6.

The original plan for restrooms was to locate them below ground. With Beach Road’s chronic flooding, that could be tricky.

The North Pattaya location is still caught up in bureaucratic red tape though construction work was begun in September and schedule to take 2 years to complete. Poramet said the city needs to determine if the land is under the jurisdiction of the Marine Department or not.

The mayor said that restrooms cannot be built at the Beach Road-Central Road but there appears to be no obstacle preventing restrooms at the southern end of the beach near the old pier site.
