Pattaya restaurant and hotel workers learned relevant laws and regulations and how to properly handle food at an annual workshop held by the Public Health Department.
The March 18 workshop hosted by technical officers from the Consumer Protection Department covered laws relating to people touching food, principles of food sanitation and personal hygiene. Demonstrations were held showing the best practices and how to conduct contamination tests.
Officer Puriwat Penphum said the training is held each year for workers in restaurants, hotels and food stores.
Thailand’s Public Health Ministry offers a “Clean Food Good Taste” certification for restaurants and hotels aimed at improving hygienic conditions of food, containers, pest control and those handling food.
The most recent figures show 86.3 percent of restaurants, food stores and food stalls in Thailand have been certified.
To upgrade, a restaurant must meet all kinds of standards including cleanliness, safety, and no contamination, with emphasis on consumer health.
