A free diver nearly drowned while searching for shells in Pattaya Bay.

Pattaya security officers and witnesses pulled to safety the unidentified Thai man around 60 years old at Bali Hai Pier June 5. They provided first aid and CPR before paramedics transported him to a local hospital.



Witness Eakaraj Kumla, 37, was diving with the victim. He explained they are construction workers who dive for shellfish to save money on food. He surfaced to find his friend floating face down.

The cause for the near-drowning is being investigated.
