BANGKOK, Thailand – The Meteorological Department has reported a temperature drop of 1-2 degrees Celsius in upper Thailand, accompanied by strong winds. Northern, Northeastern, and Central regions are experiencing cool to cold weather, while the Eastern and upper Southern regions, including Bangkok and its surrounding areas, are seeing cool mornings. Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of the lower South.
A strong high-pressure system is currently covering upper Thailand, the upper South, and the South China Sea, causing a drop in temperatures by 1-2 degrees Celsius with gusty winds. Mountainous and high-altitude areas are facing cold to very cold conditions, with some frost reported on mountaintops. Residents in these regions are advised to take precautions against the chilly weather and fire hazards due to dry air and strong winds.
Meanwhile, the Northeast Monsoon affecting the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea remains moderate, resulting in heavy rain in parts of the lower South. Residents in provinces such as Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat should be cautious of potential heavy downpours.
Mariners are also urged to exercise caution, as waves in the lower Gulf are approximately 2 meters high, and over 2 meters in areas with thunderstorms. Small boats are advised to avoid sailing in affected areas.
Forecasts indicate cool to cold mornings across the North and Northeast, with temperatures on mountaintops dropping to 3-9°C. Central and Eastern regions will also experience cool mornings, while Bangkok and its vicinity will see minimum temperatures of 19-21°C. In the lower South, thunderstorms are expected in 30% of the area, particularly in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and nearby provinces. (TNA)
