Gold prices are staging their annual rally before Chinese New Year and Pattaya residents are cashing in.

The Gold Traders Associations said the selling price for gold bars has jumped about 1,000 baht since Christmas to 22,300 baht per baht-weight on Jan. 7. The buy price was 22,200. Prices for ornaments jumped similarly to 22,800 baht.
The association said many had bought gold during a price dip late last year, anticipating the price spike before Chinese New Year starting Jan. 25.
