There may be no Countdown music festival again this year, but city officials said there is still plenty of ways to celebrate the New Year in Pattaya.
City spokeswoman Supinda Thongcharoen told the Pattaya Business & Tourism Association at its Dec. 13 meeting at the Green Park Resort that Pattaya is hosting a Buddhist new year’s celebration at 7 a.m. Jan. 1 at Lan Po Public Park in Naklua and along Central Road.
Monks will receive alms in both locations. She said Pattaya organized the event to celebrate the New Year traditionally, rather than with the rowdy rock concerts of the past.
Residents and tourists also are invited to spend New Year’s and the following weekend at the Naklua “walking street” market.
Shopping, food and entertainment are offered each Saturday and Sunday through Jan. 6 from 4-10 p.m.
The popular Pattaya Countdown was ended last year due to budget shortages and the royal mourning period and was not resurrected this year.
