Pattaya officials are hoping to head off annual flooding on Soi Khao Talo by quickly digging a drainage ditch along the city’s railroad tracks.
Sanitation Engineering Department workers began digging the runoff reservoir July 13 to handle water flowing downhill from Nongprue and Huay Yai.
Backhoes could be seen working near the Ban Nern and Khao Talo-Khao Noi communities, a distance of more than three kilometers.
Planners said the ditch should be able to accommodate up to 100,000 cubic meters of water, which will be diverted away from neighborhoods to drainage canals and out to the sea.
