Pattaya will mark 100 days since the death of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej Jan. 20 with a day of mourning ceremonies at Bali Hai Pier.
Chonburi Deputy Gov. Chawalit Saeng-Uthai joined Pattaya Mayor Chanapong Sriviset and Chalermwat Wimuktayon, chairman of Pattaya Lawyers Council, Jan. 12 to announce the morning and evening “Satamawan” ceremonies.
Organized in cooperation with the 1st Army Region, Chonburi Province and Banglamung District, the ceremonies will give Pattaya residents a chance to express their gratefulness for the late King’s boundless and gracious kindness.
Ceremonies will begin at 7 a.m. with alms giving for 89 monks and a five-religion service afterward.
At 6 p.m., people will return to Bali Hai to sing the Thai national anthem and bilingual speeches on the King’s works and gifts to Thai society will be held.
The late monarch’s compositions will be played by the bands from Pattaya schools 4 and 11 with the audience given colored cards to spell out a “message to Heaven”.
The “Candlelight Blues” also will be performed by the Wind Orchestra while contemporary dances will be staged.
Flowers and incense will be presented before the audience observes 89 seconds of silence before reciting a ballad to “the father of royal rain”. Chonburi Gov. Pakarathorn Thienchai then will lead the singing of “Falling Rain”.
The ceremony will end with candle lighting and another card message.
Everyone attending is asked to wear black. A digital mourning can be signed at PTY100Days.info.
