PATTAYA, Thailand, Oct.24 – A surge in worries over tourist safety has gripped Pattaya following a series of accidents involving foreign visitors on both roads and sidewalks. Disturbing reports reveal instances where tourists have tripped over road stubs and navigated broken sidewalks, resulting in a spectrum of injuries from broken noses to fractured ribs.
This disconcerting trend compounds previous cases of falls among foreign tourists, notably along Soi Wat Boonkanjanaram, the thoroughfare leading to Jomtien Beach. Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet has acknowledged persistent complaints about safety issues, particularly focused on the city’s roads and sidewalks. Despite some adjustments made in response to past concerns, the Mayor clarified that these initiatives were enacted during the previous administration.
In a bid to address the pressing safety concerns, Mayor Ngampichet has proposed a strategic initiative, urging the Department of Highways to conduct a comprehensive inspection of Pattaya’s pavements and lighting systems. Underscoring the critical nature of this inspection, the Mayor aims to identify and rectify any deficiencies to enhance safety for both local residents and the growing number of tourists visiting the vibrant city.
