Panty thieves are common in Thailand, but Pattaya police got a surprise when they busted the latest suspect, a man caught with a bundle of men’s – not women’s – briefs in his possession.
Montien Somwaeng, 26, was arrested July 25 after a resident of an apartment on Naklua Soi 17/2 restrained him until authorities arrived.
On him was a bag containing a number of men’s underwear as well as a knife. He was questioned, but police were confused by his complicated answers and assumed he was intoxicated.
He claimed somebody was after him and he hid in other people’s homes to hide. The underwear was given to him by a friend, he contested.
Apartment resident Chaorath Rakthong said he was out when someone alerted him to the break-in.
CCTV footage was checked and the man was seen wandering around the apartment house knocking on doors and checking which doors were open.
Police speculated the guy was after valuables, but didn’t find much so he took some underwear to satisfy a fetish.
