Hoping to boost the local fish population, Pattaya plans to create artificial reefs from old drainage pipes off Jomtien and Naklua beaches.
At an Oct. 10 meeting, Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh said the 1.5 million baht project aims to increase the fertility of the local seas and grow the amount of aquatic life to promote tourism and support fishermen.

Initial plans call for concrete pipes accumulating on Jomtien Beach to be dumped off beaches between March and May next year.
Should the national Department of Fisheries give speedy approval of the project, the start could be moved up to January, he said.
