Chonburi police went on high alert following dozens of bombings around southern Thailand.

Pol. Col. Tairong Piewpan, deputy commander of the Chonburi Provincial Police, met with senior Pattaya officers Aug. 12. They were joined by representatives from Banglamung’s other police stations as well as stations in Sattahip and Laem Chabang.

Police have increased their presence in entertainment venues frequented by tourists to try and head off any possible violence after the IEDs were set off in several places along the Thailand’s isthmus.

Night patrols were ordered increased and extra security placed around entertainment venues frequented by tourists.

More checkpoints were established to find weapons and bombs.
