Officials have begun planning for the ordination of 86 monks to mark the start of HM the King’s 86th year Dec. 5.
Deputy Mayor Wattana Chantanawaranon led the Nov. 8 meeting at city hall, with bureaucrats in the education, tourism promotion and public health offices.
Applications to be ordained in the Father’s Day event can be filed Nov. 22. Only 87 will be chosen. Those selected will participate in a parade Dec. 3 before ordination the following day at five area temples. On Dec. 8, the ordained monks will accept alms during a procession from Rungland Village to Chaimongkol Temple in South Pattaya.

Pattaya is also accepting donations of 4,500 baht to support the event.
