The Pattaya City Council’s Health Insurance Fund Committee is planning nine projects aimed at improving the health and fitness of city youths and senior citizens.

Councilman Praiwan Arromchuen chaired the July 16 meeting to gain budgetary approval for the 21 million in projects. Of nine under consideration, 8 were approved.

Praiwan said Pattaya doesn’t offer enough health-promotion activities, which can help prevent disease and create closer bonds among community residents. Health Insurance Fund staffers proposed nine programs to help offset that deficit.

The first, aimed at helping youths control their emotions, took place July 12 at Pattaya School No. 11. (See related story.)

Others projects revolve around exercise through Thai dance, organic vegetables to combat cancer, a three-day petanque tournament, bicycling to reduce belly fat and global warming, testosterone deficiency in older men, cataract checks and a general “health insurance fund maintenance” project.

Not all the projects gained immediate approval, but are expected to get the OK in time for programs to begin over the next two months.
