Pattaya Press Association plans March bike race for charity

The Pattaya Press Association hopes to promote the city as an eco-tourism destination while raising money for charity by staging a bicycle race for National Press Day in March.

PPA President Umporn Sangkaw and Atthasit Chuachuchart, manger of Sophon Cable TV, announced the March 2 ride at the broadcaster’s office Feb. 4. The race is co-sponsored by the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration and Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Umporn said profits from the event will be donated to underprivileged children in the Pattaya and Banglamung areas.

The race will cover 50-60 kilometers and split into “General Public” and “VIP” brackets. The course begins at the Nongprue Health Park, continues around Lake Mabprachan, through Nong Plalai, Pong and Huay Yai, and returns to the starting line.

Entry fees are 300, 500 and 1,000 baht and include food and water. A trophy and shirt will be given to VIP participants. More than 1,000 cyclists are expected to participate. For more information, call 081-762-6777.
