Although Pattaya is entering this year’s rainy season with 6 pumping stations at the ready, officials are asking village chiefs what other areas need help in mitigating floods.

Heads of 40 neighborhoods met with Deputy Mayor Verawat Khakhay, sanitation workers and civil engineers at city hall May 16 to hear how Pattaya is preparing for upcoming rainy days and inform them of areas still affected by slow drainage.

There are another six water-pumping stations on Sukhumvit Road at sois 45 and 78; and near railroad tracks at sois Khao Noi, Khao Talo and Nongkrabok.

The city also has 26 portable pumps ranging from 5-80 horsepower.

Each pumping station is manned with personnel to ensure the pumps work correctly and other Sanitation Department staffers are stationed at critical areas, such as the Sukhumvit and Central road intersection and near Pacific Villages to suck sand and debris out of slow drains, Worayuth said.
