PATTAYA, Thailand – The Meteorological Department has reported that the northern, northeastern, and central regions of Thailand are experiencing cool to cold weather. The eastern and upper southern regions, as well as Bangkok and its vicinity, will see cooler mornings, with temperatures expected to drop by another 1-2°C.

In its 24-hour weather forecast, the department explained that a relatively strong high-pressure system from China continues to cover upper Thailand and the South China Sea, causing a temperature drop in these areas. Northern, northeastern, and central regions will remain cool to cold, while eastern and upper southern areas, including Bangkok and its vicinity, will have cool mornings.

Mountaintops and high-altitude areas will experience cold to very cold conditions, with some frost in isolated spots. Residents are advised to take care of their health due to the colder weather and remain cautious of fire hazards caused by dry and windy conditions.

Meanwhile, the strong northeast monsoon affecting the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea is causing heavy rainfall in some areas of the lower southern region. Waves in the Gulf of Thailand are expected to reach 2-3 meters, with thunderstorms creating waves over 3 meters. In the Andaman Sea, waves will reach 1-2 meters, increasing to 2-3 meters farther offshore.

Residents in the eastern coastal areas of the south are warned to be vigilant for heavy rain and potential flash floods or runoff. Coastal communities should also be cautious of strong waves, while sailors are urged to navigate carefully and avoid areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should remain ashore until at least January 18, 2025.

In Bangkok and its vicinity, mornings will be cool, with temperatures dropping by 1-2°C. The minimum temperature will range from 17-20°C, and the maximum temperature will be between 31-33°C. (TNA)
