Banglamung District Chief Naris Niramaiwong led Pattaya and Tourist police and officers from Excise Office 2 and the Banglamung District Public Health Office in the sweep of South Pattaya shophouses. Similar crackdowns were carried out at the same time in Bangkok.

Authorities said they were looking for banned aphrodisiacs like Spanish Fly and date-rape drugs such as gamma-hydroxybutyrate. Police did find GHB at two stores, along with illegal sex toys, untaxed smuggled cigarettes and Taser weapons.

Proprietors Jirakrit Techawanitch, 47, and Suchada Sanmahachai, 49, were taken into custody. Both claimed they got the contraband from a Bangkok supplier.
