Pattaya will soon start pulling down dozens of billboards, some put up by businesses as far back as the 70s.
City Councilman Saksit Yaemsri chaired a Jan. 23 meeting on the plethora of signs and billboards following a survey of North and Beach roads.
The study found that North Road has 57 billboards while Beach Road has 27. Of those, 30 companies were found to have erected their signs illegally.
Saksit said many of the firms had been doing so for years, with one advertising since 1979.
Many of the billboards are too large or obstruct views for motorists or street and road signs.
The councilman said the city will start pulling down signs that not only were erected without permission, but those found to be the wrong size or posing a danger to traffic or navigation.
