A 22-year-old vocational-school student has become the latest Thai Internet sensation, winning fans and customers for her Pattaya tattoo shop.

Kwankao “Nong Kim” Kattiya owns Midnight Tattoo, a small glass-fronted shop on Soi Arunothai opposite Niran Condo. With a pleasantly decorated waiting area and studio, the shop offers up a relaxed, happy environment and Kwankao smiles and chats with all the customers who wander through her sliding door.

Petite with reddish-brown dyed hair, a cherub face and a healthy number of colorful tattoos all over her body, the woman has become popular on Facebook, both on her Midnight Tattoo fan page and her personal timeline.

Tattoo artist Kwankao “Nong Kim” Kattiya has become the latest Thai Internet sensation.

She said she was surprised, but excited, over the reaction of online users. She thinks her popularity came from her many friends following her. The business page has about 7,825 “likes”. From it, she has gained many customers, both male and female.

Kwankao said her interest in becoming a tattoo artist came from the admiration of art she’s had since she was a child. She later studied art.

She said she opened the shop because she likes body art personally for its beauty and variety. She trained and learned with a tattoo artist she knew and was able to open her own business within a short time.

She’s now been applying ink for about three years.

She charges anywhere from 500 to 30,000 baht for a tattoo and earns about 50,000-80,000 baht per month, she said.
