Pattaya will restore Naklua’s Nok Yang Canal, hoping to make it a stop on future eco-tourism tours.

Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome presided over the April 4 kickoff ceremony at the Jao Pho Sreenil Temple.

The mayor said the city will remove garbage and clean the canal, then move to protect mangroves planted by the Naklua Bay Preservation Group. The hope is it will someday become an environmental treasure with an abundance and diversity of life.

Itthiphol said the city also will work to educate canal-area residents to end the garbage dumping and pollution of the waterway. It will also encourage programs for youths to use the area as a knowledge center.
