Nongprue wished a happy birthday to the Pattaya area’s oldest resident, who recently turned 101.

Mayor Mai Chaiyanit and sub-district council members visited the Soi Khao Talo 18 home of Grandpa Ngern Premdecha and presented him with an honorary award for his longevity.

According to a survey by the Banglamung Home for the Elderly, Ngern is the oldest resident living in Banglamung District. The home and local government over the years have always presented gifts and a trophy to anyone reaching the centennial mark.

Grandpa Ngern lives with his grandchildren as he is not in the best of health. But he said he is happy and keeps fairly active. He was a hard worker and supported his family as a younger man and now they are looking after him, which makes him happy.

He keeps occupied during the day by planting trees and doing things around the garden. He also walks daily to keep fit and he eats only fish and vegetables. He avoids all other meats as well as greasy food.
