PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya’s parking woes continue to frustrate both residents and visitors as congestion worsens and enforcement remains inconsistent. Despite periodic crackdowns on illegal parking, many feel the efforts are focused on select areas while widespread issues persist. One resident sarcastically remarked, “Good job enforcing one street… And outside Soi 9… what about the rest? Everywhere double parking, block U-turn, run red light…”
Limited parking spaces, particularly in busy areas like Buakhao Market and Beach Road, have led to creative solutions, including small parking fees in certain locations. “10 baht to park across the street from that Starbucks at Buakhao market,” one observer pointed out, highlighting a low-cost option.
Some argue that clear signage should make parking rules easier to follow. “The signs are in Thai and English… No parking on odd day, No parking on even day… if not, pay 20 baht for all day and park at the Temple… Simple,” noted another, suggesting that alternatives exist for those willing to plan ahead.
For those tired of the parking hassle, public transport remains a viable choice. “Or take a baht bus or bike,” one local suggested, emphasizing the ease of Pattaya’s cheap and accessible transit system.
While authorities continue efforts to manage parking, without a broader, more consistent approach, many believe the situation will remain a daily struggle for drivers navigating Pattaya’s congested streets.
