Photo contest to document Pattaya’s history

The Pattaya Cultural Council is seeking to document the history of the area with a photo contest illustrating cultural, tourist and landmark locations in Banglamung District.

Council Chairman Mana Yaprakhum announced the “Photos of the Past” contest May 12 at city hall. The prizes he said, won’t be much – just 5,000 baht for first prize – but the collection of images captured will bring the history of Pattaya to life at a July show at Central Festival Pattaya Beach.

Photos must fall into at least one of five categories: Royal family visits to Pattaya, religion, official places, local culture and tradition, and important landmarks, from the beach to bridges to markets.

The photographs must be originals and the person submitting it must own the rights to the photo. It can never have been published or have won a prize in any competition. Finally, the competitor must be warranted by a professional, community leader, or a trusted person.

Submissions are open now through June 30 at the Department of Religion, Arts and Culture at Pattaya City Hall.

Prizes will range from 1,000-5,000 baht and the awards will be presented during the July exhibition at the beachfront mall.
