About 100 Plutaluang residents rallied at the Sattahip Water Department, demanding authorities resolve a water-shortage problem that has been running for three years.
Plutaluang 2 village chief Itsra Ritmak, 38, met with water department manager Wuttipat Sitthiditporn Feb. 2.
He said more than 300 residents living in 93 households have had to endure shortages for more than three years. And when the water does run, he added, it’s often dirty and smelly.
Residents have been forced to buy water or bring their children to a nearby petrol station for clean water, he said. Others bought water from the Plutaluang Golf Course, but that costs 86 baht per month, he added.
Plutaluang residents protest outside the Sattahip Water Department, demanding authorities resolve a water-shortage problem that has been running for three years.
Whenever residents have inquired, they’ve been told there were problems with cracked or broken pipes and told problems would be fixed soon, Itsra said.
The protest was sparked when the water went out for five straight days and none of the residents could get a straight answer from authorities.
Wuttipat acknowledged he’s heard complaints before and assured locals the department is working on the problem. He said the main problem is the village sits on a plateau at the end of a water main, which reduces the quantity and pressure in the line.
He said water service was due to resume Feb. 5.
