Pattaya’s new police chief has pledged to fund renovation of the Soi 9 headquarters parking lot and other facilities out of his own pocket.
Pol. Col. Apichai Krobpetch, who took over the top-cop job last month, declined to state how much baht he will pull out of his own pockets for the projects, but says they are necessary to upgrade the image of the station.
Pattaya is a world-famous city and a top destination. Its police station should better represent the aspects of such a popular city, he said.
The first improvement needed is the parking lot. Contractors will resurface and level the entire lot, and move all motorbike parking to the side of the building, freeing up more room out front for cars.
Afterward, interior areas will be retiled, broken facilities repaired and the officers’ working areas reorganized.
Apichai said he carried out similar projects at stations he headed in Songkhla and Trang provinces.
Budgets for police stations traditionally are small and city departments can go years waiting for new offices to be built or renovated.
