More police and volunteers will patrol the Wat Pong Market area to prohibit traffic-clogging U-turns at the Khao Maikaew Bridge and illegal parking.
Pong Deputy Mayor Anuchar Pienjai chaired a Feb. 20 meeting with sub-district officials, traffic police, market executive Sompong Boonchinwuthikul and shop owners following rampant complaints about the illegal U-turns at the neck of the interchange with Highway 36.
Residents complained drivers going toward Khao Maikaew constantly make illegal U-turns at the bridge, causing traffic jams, while shoppers are parking wherever they like, clogging traffic even more.
The public complained local police have done nothing to reinforce the law or solve the congestion.
Nongprue police officials said they will erect both “no parking” and “no U-turn” signs in the affected areas, even though motorists already know U-turns and double-parking already are illegal.
In addition, more traffic officers and civil-defense volunteers will be stationed in the area during the afternoon rush hour to keep things moving, Nongprue police said.
If those measures prove ineffective, police and the Highway Department will consider other options.
