Police say drug suspect delivered for Chonburi inmate

Police have arrested the alleged deliveryman for a drug dealer operating from behind bars at Chonburi Prison.

Phakphum Khumchoey, 28, was apprehended Sept. 6 during a sting operation in his native Chachoengsao. Officers found 1,400 methamphetamine tablets in his Isuzu Triton pickup truck.

Pattaya Police Superintendent Col. Thummanoon Mankhong said Phakphum became a suspect after being named by a number of lower-level drug dealers arrested previously in Pattaya. He is believed to deliver drugs as ordered by a Chonburi Prison inmate known only as “Deer.”

Pattaya police used undercover operatives to arrange a drug purchase from Deer and were given a meeting point in Chachoengsao. Phakphum appeared at the meeting point with the drugs and was arrested, police said.

Under questioning, investigators said, Phakphum confessed to working for Deer for some time and periodically was assisted by the inmate’s wife, who police are now seeking.
