Police are tightening security around Bali Hai Pier with a trio of traffic checkpoints aimed at cutting the number of crimes in the area.
A popular gathering place for teens and site of numerous gang-related incidents, Bali Hai will now have police stationed under the overpass near the pier and two between Banglamung and the Pattaya Courthouse. The checkpoints, operated by 10 officers, will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12 midnight until further notice.
Pattaya police have set up check points in South Pattaya to enforce traffic regulations.
Capt. Porachet Rattanavijit said the checkpoints are aimed at traffic-law offenders, but also will help to cut down on other crimes.
“Bali Hai is a source of numerous crimes, including jewelry snatching and drugs,” he said.
