Pong celebrated the start of Buddhist Lent with a parade featuring hand-carved candles destined for four subdistrict temples.

Mayor Pranerb Sirirup kicked off the July 9 procession that carried the lent candles to Nopthongdee Sripruktaram and Wangarom temples where tom-tom drummers provided entertainment.

The procession then proceeded on to Tumpratun and Tuanthong temples.

Candles are a symbolic merit-making gift, meant to provide light to monks during the “rains retreat” where they are confined to temple grounds for three months.
