An upgrade of electricity lines along Thepprasit Road shocked motorists who found themselves bogged down in traffic by the roadwork.
Provincial Electricity Authority workers placed themselves in several places along Thepprasit Jan. 25, causing huge backups of traffic trying to get around the cranes, heavy machinery and detours.
Travelers from Sukhumvit Road found it took about an hour to reach Jomtien Beach.
Crew chief Jirawat Meepayung said one half of the road had to be blocked off for the operation. Ten-meter-tall power poles were replaced with ones twice the size and new, higher-capacity lines strung along the two-kilometer strip.
The crew chief apologized for the inconvenience, but said it was part of PEA’s long-running operation to upgrade Pattaya’s power supply.
