An extremely premature infant died after its mother went into labor at a Sukhumvit Road bus stop and Banglamung Hospital medical personnel decided to deliver the baby in her pickup truck.

Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation rescuers and doctors from the hospital responded to the Dec. 14 call from the Nakhon Chai bus station on Sukhumvit Road, about 100 meters from the Central Road intersection.

Five-months-pregnant Parichard Karmdam, 19, was in labor and had been on the way to the hospital when she realized the baby was coming.

Rather than transport her, the medical team decided to deliver the child. It took medics about 10 minutes to do so and the baby was tiny and breathing lightly.

They rushed the child and mother to the hospital, but the infant died.
