Pattaya officials said their move to have tour companies pick up and drop off passengers at three spots on Beach Road, instead of Bali Hai Pier, proved an overall success, despite some hiccups.

After the June 10 closure of parking and drop-off areas at the pier for renovation, buses and taxis were told to take speedboat passengers and scuba divers to one of three designated zones and leave from Pattaya Beach to reduce congestion at the South Pattaya jetty.

City, police and military officials inspected Beach Road at the A-One Royal Cruise and Hard Rock hotels, and in front of Royal Garden Plaza June 13 and came away mostly satisfied.

Officials said some operators had illegally parked outside the designated 300-meter zones and created some traffic snarls. But, overall, they said, it worked out OK.
