A 39-year-old Russian man apparently escaped from a fight in Pattaya, but died after returning to his South Pattaya hotel.

Pavel Filanov was found unconscious on the fifth floor of the Lido Grande hotel on Third Road June 26. With leg injuries and a ruptured spleen, he was taken to Pattaya Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A hotel employee said she discovered the battered Russian while she was walking the hall. Filanov had been staying at the budget inn for about a month and was due to check out in two days.

Police speculate he got into a fight outside the hotel, came back to his room and passed out due to massive blood loss from the ruptured spleen.
