A navy petty officer died after he crashed his Harley-Davidson into the side of a pickup truck.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Saman Jithan, 42, died Dec. 20 at Queen Sirikit Naval Medical Center from injuries sustained in the collision with an Isuzu pickup at the U-turn in front of the Air and Coastal Defense Command on Sukhumvit Road.
The pickup’s driver, Petty Officer 3rd Class Taksin Phangut, 49, said he was following traffic laws and making a legal U-turn when Saman, moving at high speed, hit the left side of his truck at full speed. The motorcyclist was thrown 20 meters.
Police are checking his story against CCTV footage and witness accounts.
