A sailor saved a dog from a watery death by pulling the pooch from a 15-meter well.
Petty Officer 1st Class Somsak Nukajad, 54, heard 3-year-old Dam barking from the groundwater well on vacant land near the Klua Ban Pu restaurant in Sattahip May 6. Looking down, he saw the stranded canine paddling for its life.
Using his sailor skills, Somsak made a loop knot to lasso the dog, but failed. He then tied a ladder to the rope and climbed down to secure the dog with the loop and pulled it to safety to the applause of onlookers.
A somtam vendor at Klua Ban Pu said the dog ended up in the well because some kids were shooting at it with slingshots. The scared dog raced away and accidentally fell into the well.
