District Chief Noraset Sritapatso, Najomtien Sub-district head Somsak Thabklad, other local officials and more than 30 Forestry Department staffers, volunteers and sailors inspected the hillside Aug. 31 to determine the scope of the encroachment problem.

Khao Malakoh covers 22 rai in Najomtien and is a combination of rock, soil and gravel. However, there were traces of excavators digging up certain areas and a majority of the trees were cut down.

No one was at the site to take responsibility. However, there was a “no trespassing” sign bearing the phone number of a local resident.

The same area had been exploited before and Paisarn Sriruen, 40, previously was arrested and charged.
