A Sattahip man was arrested for allegedly trying to pawn fake gold.

Pornchai Suwannakhet, 39, was apprehended at the Thananubal Pawn Shop while trying to hock a 1-baht-weight chain he claimed was genuine gold. It wasn’t.

Store clerk Dawin Chatsiri, 48, alleged this was the second time Pornchai had tried to swindle him. The first time he got away with pawning a 5-baht-weight gold chain, but settled with the owner by paying back what he pawned it for.

The second time clerks were more careful looking at his wares.

Police said Pornchai claimed he didn’t know the jewelry he was trying to sell was fake, saying he wore it himself. However, a check on the various rings, bracelets and necklaces he was wearing found they, too, were all fake.

Police claimed this was the third time Pornchai had tried pawn fake gold.
