Devastating flood or not, Rattana Thassanawadee’s baby was coming. Fortunately for the 21-year-old, a rubber boat from the Sattahip Naval Station was there to help her.

Navy Mine Squadron boat No. 63 found Rattana under the Preedee-Thamrong Bridge in inundated Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya Oct. 15. She had fled her deluged Nakhon Luang District house with five cousins, but went into labor as Royal Thai Navy rescuers attempted to move her to an emergency shelter.

Sailors called doctors, who had no choice but to deliver her baby boy on the rubber raft. Rattana named the 3 kg. infant “Navy” and residents, so happy to find joy amidst disaster, all played No. 63 for the upcoming lottery draw.
