Sattahip police and administrative officials knocked on doors in the migrant-laborer community to ease wariness of authorities and investigate possible cases of human trafficking.
Sattahip police superintendent Pol. Col. Metavith Pradithphol led a delegation that included Sattahip’s assistant district chief, head of security, and top police officials to meet with migrants May 7 at Chong Samae Temple in Samae San.
Sattahip police and administrative officials meet with migrant laborers to ease wariness of authorities and investigate possible cases of human trafficking.
Metavith said police, marine, and administrative officials are looking for ways to solve human trafficking problems and organized the “knock on doors” project to improve relations between the migrant community and government, and give officials direct access to those who might be victims of human trafficking.
Authorities will split into the three groups to focus on living conditions, offshore fishing boats and employment conditions.
The effort also will help in eliminating illegal labor and protect the fishermen from becoming ensnared into slavery networks recently exposed in the industry.
