Sattahip officials gave Plutaluang farmers something to quack about when they presented the community with 500 ducklings to raise for breeding.
District Chief Chaichan Iamcharoen and Livestock, Agriculture and Cooperatives Department’s Director Chaowana Thongyen handed over the ducks to village chiefs and senior citizens Nov. 2.
The 500 ducklings marked an expansion of a program begun earlier to resolve Sattahip’s poverty problems. The government has a goal to raise the household poverty line from 23,000 baht per year to 30,000 baht per family, per year.
Sattahip officials donate 500 ducklings to Plutaluang farmers.
Although many of the district’s households rely on agriculture for support, officials believe there are ways to diversify and raise incomes. One such is to get more people into raising livestock and fowl, which was the basis for the duckling donation.
