The Sattahip Port Authority practiced its response to an oil spill near the busy navy and fishing piers.

Capt. Jeerapong Aphichartwong, head of operations at Juksamet Pier, led the April 25-27 drills at Sattahip Port.

Ninety-four sailors and personnel from fleets 23 and 24 at the Sattahip Naval Base participated in the exercise using nets and other real-world equipment to clear oil used in the drill.

Sailors and personnel from fleets 23 and 24 at the Sattahip Naval Base rehearse oil spill response techniques near the busy navy and fishing piers.

Jeerapong said the drill is necessary to stay prepared for any oil-spill disaster and involves both military and civilian personnel.

The drill is run several times a year under a budget provided by the Sattahip Port Authority and Sattahip Naval Base.
