Sattahip residents planted jasmine rice to honor HM the Queen for Mother’s Day and sow a crop that will be harvested on Father’s Day.

The Navy Wives Association organized the community event with students from 18 Sattahip schools, Royal Thai Navy personnel, civil servants and local residents. Together they planted Sangyod GI jasmine rice – the preferred breed of HM the King – at the Sufficiency Economy Learning Center at the Naval Recruit Training Center.

Association President Atchara Phipatanasai opened the proceeding with academy dean Vice Adm. Suriya Pornsuriya.

She explained that the planting is only the first of two parts of the ceremony meant to promote HM the King’s sufficiency economy philosophy and honor tradition. The community will then harvest the rice on HM the King’s birthday, Dec. 5.
