Pattaya tourists and locals were invited to eat until they burst while rocking to Thai pop at the Amazing Seafood Festival.
Chonburi Gov. Pakarathorn Thienchai and area government and business leaders opened the May 5-7 festival on Pattaya Beach that was organized by local government and the Pattaya Business & Tourism Association aimed at boosting low-season tourism.
Tourists and locals alike thronged the 200 shoreline booths, feasting on fresh, safe and affordable seafood. There also was a large area that could seat 1,500 diners for a gala dinner set up on the beach to showcase the festival’s renowned chefs.
Guests were entertained by bands including Stamp Apiwat, Modern Dog, and Jetsetter.
Sales were tightly regulated with the city actively patrolling against freelance hawkers plying their trade on public property. Municipal police officer Wuttirat Boonme positioned authorities around the area also to prevent crime. Sellers found breaching the law were fined 2,000 baht.
Many of the customers were Chinese tourists who changed plans to go to Koh Larn when they saw the cornucopia of grilled squid, jumbo prawns, lobsters and more on offer.
