PATTAYA, Thailand – Motorbike disorder has been a growing concern in Pattaya, particularly with the disregard for traffic laws. Motorbike riders often ignore traffic lanes, park inappropriately, and drive recklessly, causing major disruptions in the flow of traffic. It’s not just motorbikes; cars often follow suit, neglecting marked lanes, and creating even more chaos. This issue is compounded by the inability of many drivers to navigate roundabouts correctly, where vehicles inside the roundabout refuse to yield, while others outside simply cut through, adding to the confusion.
One local expressed frustration, saying: “I really wish the traffic laws were enforced more strictly, especially regarding motorbikes. It’s such a mess, with no one ever stopping or parking in the designated areas.
Even cars do the same, and no one respects the diagonal lines marking the intersections. Then people complain about the traffic! Roundabouts are another issue—drivers in the roundabout don’t go, and those outside just cut in. How did these people even get their licenses?
There used to be more discipline even when people just bought licenses. Nowadays, with everyone taking a test, it’s different. The traffic police don’t seem interested in doing their job either—they’re more focused on fining people for helmets and parking violations, rather than tackling more serious issues like illegal parking and double parking. If they made it a routine, people would start to get the message.
Enforcement should be consistent, not sporadic. It’s like they’re just trying to trap motorbikes when they enter tunnels. What’s the point of that?”
This comment highlights the frustrations felt by many residents and visitors alike. The traffic situation in Pattaya has reached a point where it feels like the enforcement of traffic rules is inconsistent at best, and completely absent at worst.
