Repairs to Beach Road sidewalks near Soi 1 should be complete within a month with work begun to prevent erosion from again collapsing the footpaths.
Scarred by holes and broken by the force of raging floodwaters, the sidewalk on both sides of Soi 1, stretching about 40 meters, fell victim to sewer overflows during this season’s heavy rains. When water backed up, the storm runoff raced along the tiles, sweeping their sand foundation away.
Private contactors have begun work to not only repair the sidewalk, but level the ground underneath it to remove the slope that allowed water to race downhill, exposing the base of power poles and roots of trees. Utility poles will be relocated as well to prevent further damage.
Repairs have begun to Beach Road sidewalks near Soi 1, and should be complete within a month.
